Reflective Writing 1: First Meeting In The Academic Writing Course with Mr.Udi

Thursday, February 17, 2022, is the first day of our meeting for academic writing. In this first meeting, Mr. Udi Samanhudi Ph.D. as a lecturer in Academic Writing provided information about the contract for this semester and also what students who take this course will do this semester. Many interesting things happened at this first meeting, one of which was the introduction of several Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) students because they participated in the independent student exchange program (PMM) held by the government. Not Mr. Udi if there is no brainstorming activity in a meeting. We were given 4 questions from Mr. Udi and we were given 10 minutes to search on google about that question. The questions include the definition of academic writing, the characteristics of academic writing, some problems that often occur by students when writing academic writing, and the definition of digital writing. From these 4 questions, I got some answers from google. For the question of understanding Academic Writing, I got the answer. Academic writing is clear, concise, focused, structured, and backed up by evidence. The meaning of the structure here is coherent, written based on logical order, and brings together related points and material. Apart from that, I also got another understanding from another student in that meeting. Academic writing is a formal style of writing used in universities and scholarly publications. It also includes references and citations. This also provides evidence of research. For the second question, I got the answer structured, planned, focused, evidenced, and formal in tone and style from google. For the third question, which is about what problems usually occur by students in academic writing, I find that students experience various problems, there are grammatical errors, lack of confidence because when students do not feel good when they write, they will have difficulty starting to write. So that their lack of confidence is very important to overcome one of the problems they experience. In addition, insufficient knowledge is also one of the problems that are often experienced by students. Because when they want to write but their knowledge in knowing a topic is not adequate, then they will have difficulty in conveying their writing. Therefore, a lot of knowledge is also needed by students in writing, including in academic writing. For the last question, which is about digital writing, what I got was digital writing is the art and practice of preparing documents primarily by computer and often for online delivery. Without us realizing it, we do digital writing every day in the form of sending texts to each other with friends or family and it can also be when we like writing we share our articles, papers, or journals with many people through a platform with the help of technology in the form of computers, laptops, cellphones, and others. From this brainstorming and exploration activity, I get new information about the definition of academic writing and digital writing, the characteristics of academic writing, and the others.

So, for the first meeting for Academic Writing overall it's very nice and I really hope from this course we can get increase our information and knowledge, especially about Academic Writing.

Thank you for reading my first reflective writing. Have a good day!⛅
