Reflective Writing 3: Learn about critical writing and descriptive writing. Is it complicated or simple?
Hello! How are you, everyone? I hope you are in good health and happiness. In this reflective, we will learn about descriptive writing and critical writing. But first, I want to tell the readers of my blog about this Academic writing course meeting in the 4th week. So, at this meeting, it was held via Google Meet. We were given time to learn about descriptive writing and critical writing during the meeting and then write what we found in the chatbox. This meeting was quite exciting because this material was not the first material I heard, but after I found out more on the internet and what explanation Mr. Udi said in this meeting, this material is new for me because critical writing and descriptive writing are not as simple as we think.
Writing
is one of the crucial skills that we must have. Because writing equips us with
communication and thinking skills. Good writing skills allow you to communicate
efficiently to a far larger audience than in face-to-face conversations. For
example, we can write a message or report on email, communicate with other
people using our social media or blog, and many more. We can do many things to prove that writing equips us with communication and thinking
skills. There are several kinds of writing. Two of them are critical writing
and descriptive writing.
Critical
writing is very good for students because the students or the people who write
with critical writing can provide a critical view and hope to convince and
influence. As we know that critical writing is a type of writing where the
writer defines the task, identifies, and refines the thesis. And one of the
characteristics of critical writing is arguments. The argument is our opinion
or claim about something that we write. In this critical writing, arguments
include a claim, reason or justification, example or evidence, and elaboration
or justification of the audience. So we need to critical thinking when writing
with critically writing. I say that critical writing is very good for students
does not mean descriptive writing is terrible for students. Descriptive writing
is also suitable for students. Because descriptive writing can help the
students or the people who write with descriptive writing to describe the topic
and the content of the text. Unlike critical writing, descriptive writing did
not use arguments such as reason or justification, example or evidence, and so
on. In descriptive writing, the content is about what happened, what something
is like, lists details, says how to do something, and states the order in which
things happened. So we do not need arguments in this descriptive writing.
From
this learning and the new things that I discovered at this meeting, I felt I
should further improve my writing skills, both critical writing, and
descriptive writing. But if I have to choose which one to learn of writing, I
will choose to learn critical writing because I feel that my ability in
critical writing is still very lacking. So I hope that I can write better
critically and descriptively than now in the future.
Thank you for
reading my reflective! I really hope this reflective can increase your
knowledge about this topic. Have a good day, everyone!😇👋🌈
